Arming the Insurgents

The Government Accountability Office says U.S. military officials do not know what happened to 30 percent of the weapons the United States distributed to Iraqi forces since 2004. According to the report issued by the GAO, the Pentagon has lost track of 110,000 rifles, 80,000 pistols, 135,000 items of body armor and 115,000 helmets.
It's been speculated that some of these arms may have fallen into the hands of the insurgents in Iraq. Perhaps our troops may be getting shot at by these same weapons.

The Bush administration has frequently complained about Iran's and Syria's role in arming the insurgents.
Maybe now they might contemplate our role...
